The acquisition of Gravity R&D will be used to advance AI, SmartBid and eCommerce personalization, says Taboola

Taboola says the acquisition aligns with its 'Recommend Anything' growth strategy to introduce new recommendations and enter new segments.

Taboola says its platform, powered by advanced AI algorithms, provides over 1 trillion recommendations a month to some 500 million users.

Taboola expects to close the transaction later this year as it looks to expand beyond content recommendation into products and apps.

Israeli-founded companies Taboola and Outbrain first announced their expected merger last year to challenge Google and Facebook's ad duopoly.

Companies founded by Israelis and valued at $1 billion or over nearly doubled this year.

Adam Singolda, founder of Taboola, will serve as the CEO of the merged company which will employ over 2,000 people in 23 offices globally.
