EyeYon Medical Raises $2M
April 5, 2015 | The eye treatment company EyeYon Medical announced that it raised $2 million. Founded by ophthalmologists Dr. Arie Marcovich and Dr. Daphna Ofer, EyeYon has developed special contact lenses to treat corneal edema. The $2 million investment is added to the $3 million already raised by the company from the Van Leer Incubator and Sagam Group.

Confirmed: Check Point Will Buy Startup Lacoon
April 2, 2015 | Israeli cybersecurity giant Check Point will buy Lacoon Mobile Security, an Israeli startup company that develops firewall technologies for smartphones, for an estimated $80-$100 million. Earlier this year, Check Point acquired cybersecurity firm Hyperwise for a similar amount. Check Point was founded in 1993 in Tel Aviv by Shlomo Kramer and Gil Shwed.

Startup Via Raises $27M From Pitango
April 2, 2015 | Israeli startup Via, which develops an on-demand transportation solution, has raised $27 million in a financing round led by Israeli VC Pitango. Via allows you to book a ride from your smartphone, get picked up by a professionally chauffeured SUV and share your ride with others going the same way. Via was founded in 2012 by Oren Shoval and Daniel Ramot.

Wix Acquires Startup Moment.me
April 2, 2015 | Israeli company Wix has acquired Israeli startup Moment.me for an undisclosed amount. According to reports in the Israeli media, it’s estimated to be between $10-$20 million. Founded in 2012, Moment.me is a platform that scans social media websites and assembles virtual photo albums. Wix is a DIY web publishing platform. The company was founded in 2006 by Nadav Abrahami, Avishai Abrahami and Giora Kaplan.

Startup Tapingo Raises $22M From Qualcomm Ventures
April 2, 2015 | Mobile ordering startup Tapingo has raised $22 million in a financing round led by Qualcomm Ventures. The company, which was founded in Israel and now operates out of its San Francisco office, develops technologies for ordering food from restaurants through smartphones, especially across Israeli and US campuses. Tapingo’s transactions top 25,000 a day in 85 colleges and universities in the US. Founded in 2012 by Udi Oster and Daniel Almog, the company plans to venture out of the US to additional countries.

Sapiens Acquires IBEXI For $4M-$6M
April 2, 2015 | Israeli software company Sapiens International Corporation has acquired Indian company IBEXI Solutions, a provider of insurance business and technology solutions, for $4M-$6M. Sapiens is headed by Roni Al-Dor, and is traded both on NASDAQ and on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. Founded in 1982 by Tsvi Misinai, Sapiens develops computer software solutions for the insurance industry.

Report: ImageSat, Incentive To Launch Startup Accelerator
April 1, 2015 | Israeli company ImageSat International and Incentive Incubator (owned by Israeli VC firm Peregrine) will launch a startup accelerator for companies developing applications using data retrieved from satellites, according to a Globes report. The companies will reportedly invest $15 million in several startup companies in the next two years. ImageSat, headed by CEO Noam Segal, has several satellites that provide information to governments and businesses. Peregrine Ventures specializes in seed-stage investments in medical device companies, as well as in software companies.

Study: Israeli Patents In US Grew 21% In 2014
April 1, 2015 | The number of Israeli patent filings in the US grew by 21 percent in 2014, compared to 2013, according to a study by Israeli business information firm BdiCoface. The Startup Nation was ranked No.3 on the list of foreign countries filing patents in the US, after Japan and Taiwan. Topping the list of Israeli R&D centers filing in the US are: IBM, Intel and Marvell. Tel Aviv University was ranked it No. 6.

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani To Invest In Israeli Startups
March 31, 2015 | Billionaire Mukesh Ambani, India’s wealthiest person, will invest in Israeli startup companies, according to a Bloomberg report. His conglomerate Reliance Industries is currently looking to invest in high-tech companies in Israel and in Silicon Valley. Ambani is building a $13.6 billion fourth-generation phone network in India, and is scouting for startups in the fields of telecommunication and e-commerce.

Israeli FinTech Firm OTI Wins Patent Suit Against T-Mobile
March 31, 2015 | Israeli FinTech company On Track Innovations (OTI), a provider of cashless payment solutions, has received a favorable ruling by the U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, in its lawsuit against mobile network operator T-Mobile. According to the ruling, T-Mobile phones equipped with near field communication (NFC) technology, which was developed by OTI, infringe OTI’s patent. OTI was founded in 1990 by Oded Bashan.

D+H Corp. To Acquire Fundtech for $1.25B
March 31, 2015 | D+H Corporation has agreed to acquire Israeli FinTech company Fundtech for $1.25 billion. Based in Toronto, Canada, D+H is a financial technology provider that serves 7,000 banks, specialty lenders, community banks, credit unions and governments. A provider of banking software, Fundtech was founded in 1993 by CEO Reuven Ben Menachem.

Tech Mahindra To Invest $20M In Israeli Startups
March 31, 2015 | Indian IT services giant Tech Mahindra will invest $20 million in Israeli startup companies, according to a TheMarker report. Tech Mahindra, which acquired Israeli company Leadcom last year, will reportedly acquire additional Israeli high-tech companies. With annual revenues of $3.4 billion, Tech Mahindra is a global conglomerate with 95,000 employees in 50 countries.

Teva To Acquire Auspex For $3.5B
March 30, 2015 | Israeli pharmaceutical giant Teva Pharmaceutical Industries has agreed to acquire Auspex Pharmaceuticals for $3.5 billion. The acquisition will strengthen Teva’s portfolio of treatments for the central nervous system. Teva was originally founded in 1901 as Salomon, Levin, and Elstein.

March 30, 2015 | Israeli e-commerce website GlassesUSA has raised $12.5 million in a financing round led by Viola Private Equity. Based in Bnei Brak, GlassesUSA is an online retailer of prescription eyewear. It was founded in 2009 by CEO Daniel Rothman, COO Eldad Rothman and CTO Roy Yamner.
