August 26, 2015 | The community home design platform Houzz announced that it has acquired GardenWeb, a garden and home community website, from NBCUniversal. The acquisition amount was not disclosed. GardenWeb is an iVillage website and was acquired by NBC in 2006. Houzz has already begun to introduce GardenWeb’s content on its website. Houzz has raised $213.6 million in four rounds of funding. Houzz was founded in 2009 by Alon Cohen and Adi Tatarko.

August 26, 2015 | Israeli Aerospace Industries signed a contract to supply Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) in Tokyo with its TAME™ Range, a Cyber Range training platform. As part of the agreement, DNP, a leader in publication printing, documentation security and software security products in Japan and around the world, will become a reseller of IAI’s Cyber Range in Japan. TAME™Range allows a realistic cyber warfare training environment to improve the cyber awareness and readiness of cyber defenders. IAI was founded in 1953 by Al Schwimmer and former Israeli President Shimon Peres.

Israel Launches Satellite-Building Competition For Youth
August 26, 2015 | The Israeli Ministry of Science, Technology and Space and the Israel Space Agency will host a model satellite building contest for Israeli youth. The contest will take place July 23- August 30, asking 12-15-year-olds to submit their ideas for a prototype satellite and an original mission for the object. The contest is being held as part of the “Space Ambassadors” program.

TAU, Miami-Dade Sign Knowledge-Sharing Agreement
August 26, 2015 | Tel Aviv University’s Entrepreneurship Center (StarTau) and The Idea Center at Miami-Dade College signed a knowledge-sharing agreement. The agreement will enhance Miami’s entrepreneurship ecosystem and help link Israel’s startup industry to resources and people in Miami. Nearly 30 dignitaries attended the signing ceremony including Miami-Dade’s president and Oren Simanian, the founder of StarTau. The agreement is a product of a Knight Foundation-sponsored trip to Israel that was organized by Project Interchange.

Lockheed Employs Israeli Tech In Airplane Models
August 25, 2015 | Israeli company Hexagon Metrology will provide Lockheed Martin with an optical inspection system for some of its airplane models. The order, worth $603,000, will install 3D White Light testing systems in certain Lockheed models. The technology was developed by CogniTens, an Israeli company that was founded in 1995 by Mobileye founder and investor Amnon Shashua. The technology sold to Hexago Metrology in 2007.

August 25, 2015 | Isracard, a leading credit card company in Israel, announced that it will enter into a partnership with Israeli startup “Dorbil”. Dorbil’s NEIGHBOR app allows for the organization of building management systems and is a home payment platform. Isracard reportedly plans to integrate the application into its range of services.

Shenkar Rated 11th Best School For Fashion
August 25, 2015 | The Israeli design school, Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art was rated among the best undergraduate fashion programs in the world. The ranking, complied by “Business of Fashion”, put Shenkar in 11th place of 21 schools rated. In addition, the school was rated 5th for its influence on global fashion trends. “Business of Fashion” wrote, “Shenkar blends both the technical and conceptual in its curriculum. Graduates leave the college feeling equipped for a profession in the fashion industry.” Notable Israeli fashion designers Alber Elbaz and Kobi Halperin are former Shenkar students of fashion.

Genesis Partners and Entree Capital lead the round that is still on-going and raising funds. dapulse has seen significantly growth over the last 18 months, with its customer base growing to 1,800, serving companies like WeWork and Discovery. dapulse was founded in 2012 by Eran Kampf, Eran Zinman and Roy Man.

Report: Deutsche Telekom To Invest €100M In Israeli Startups
August 25, 2015 | According to a report in “TheMarker”, the German telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom will invest € 100 million in Israeli high-tech in the coming years. The company will invest through its venture capital arm, and the investment process will be led by Guy Horowitz, the former CEO of Deutsche Telekom in Israel. In addition, Amit Keren has been appointed to the position of business developer for Deutsche Telekom in Israel. Deutsche Telekom is headquarted in Bonn, Germany and is headed by CEO and Chairman Timotheus Hotteges.

Navidea To Issue Dual Listing On TASE
August 25, 2015 | Navidea Biopharmaceuticals announced that it would register its shares in a dual listing on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE). The biopharmaceutical company that produces precision diagnostics, therapeutics and radiopharmaceutical agents is already listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Dual listing on the TASE is allowed in the United States and Israel without any additional regulatory requirements. Navidea Biopharmaceuticals is headquartered in Ohio.

August 24, 2015 | According to a “Geektime” report, the inventor of the Redis database, Salvatore Sanfilippo has joined the Israeli company Redis Labs. At the company, he will lead the open source development of the product, “Redis Cloud” for users in Israel and Silicon Valley. According to Sanfilippo, Redis Labs is “the only significantly sized team of Redis core experts.” Redis Labs was founded in 2011 by Ofer Bengal and Yiftach Shoolman.

Annual Wikimedia Hackathon To Take Place In Jerusalem

The hackathon event, in which 200 developers, programmers, systems managers and tech fans come together to develop new parts of Media Wiki that powers Wikipedia, will take place in Jerusalem in March-April 2016. Teva Naot Opens Fourth Store In Japan
August 24, 2015 | The Israeli shoe and sandal manufacturer Teva Naot announced that it will open its fourth Japanese retail branch in Tokyo. The Israeli company reports that it will invest $300,000 in the opening of the store. This is the third Teva Naot store in Tokyo with another located in Nara. In addition, Teva Naot recently signed a distribution agreement with one of the largest retailers in South Korea HLMC.

Ceva Enters Wearable Tech Market
August 23, 2015 | The provider of chip design technologies Ceva announced that it signed an agreement with chip company NXP for the production of Internet of Things technologies. According to the agreement, Ceva’s Bluetooth technology will be included in NXP’s chip series designed for wearable technologies. Ceva’s technology supports the entire range of Bluetooth standards and saves energy, with the goal of increasing the battery life of wearable technology. Ceva is based in Herzliya and was founded in 2002.

Noris Medical Moves Headquarters To New York
August 23, 2015 | The Israeli dental implant company Noris Medical announced that it will move its headquarters to Western New York as part of a partnership with a local company. Noris Medical and Evolve, a medical productions distribution arm of Evolution Dental, will share an office space as part of a distribution agreement signed between the two companies. Noris Medical is also considering setting up a manufacturing plant at the site of the office. Noris Medical’s current headquarters and main R&D center are located in the Israeli city of Nesher.
