A newly published study of cow and goat milk samples found low levels of residues but there is still cause for concern, the researchers say.

Israel is world renowned for its advanced cow milking systems. The combination of agricultural kibbutzim and the high-tech industry enabled a strong industry to flourish. Now the technology has been adapted to goats and is exported overseas.

Using biogas made from cow manure is a known means of producing electricity. Last Monday, the largest such power plant was inaugurated in Be'er Tuvya. The plant will convert the waste of 14,000 cows and will generate enough electricity to power 6,000 homes.

Israeli kibbutz members have been called to India to help bring the country's ancient dairy industry into the 21st century. A key factor in designing the farms was remembering that in India - cows are holy.

In the largest project of its kind in the world and the biggest ever undertaken by an Israeli firm, 30,000 dairy cows are being flown to Vietnam to supply 300 million liters of milk annually as part of a $500 million dairy farm project there.
