Data solutions giant EMC has announced that it will build the Israeli EMC Labs, a cooperation between the company’s Israeli Center of Excellence and Ben Gurion University. The project is intended to supply the company’s research and strategic needs, which will lead to breakthrough technology in the fields of storage, security and big data.

5 Out Of 6 Startups From IDC Elevator Secure Financing
Five out of six startup companies who took part in Israeli accelerator program, IDC Elevator, have signed agreements to receive funding from Israeli and American Investors. The sixth company is also in advanced negotiations to secure funding. IDC Elevator, the first accelerator in Israel to offer initial funding for entrepreneurs, was set up by Uri Glazer and Tom Bronfeld in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Center in Hertzlia (IDC). The accelerator’s first class launched in April 2012 and currently, applicants are being chosen for the second class.

Better Place Gets $67M Injection From Israel Corp.
In light of financial difficulties facing electric car venture Better Place, Israeli corporation Israel Corp., which owns 28 percent of the venture, has announced that it will invest an additional $67 million in the company. Following the recent turmoil, in which founder Shai Agassi stepped down from the CEO position, Better Place has asked investors for $100 million in additional funding.

Israel’s Technion And India’s iCreate To Set-Up Incubator
India’s International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology (iCreate) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Israel’s Technion for setting up an incubator aimed at startup companies from both countries. According to the Technion, rougly 40 percent of all Israeli startups are incubated by the University, located in the city of Haifa.

Travel assistance app company WorldMate has been acquired by Canadian Carlson Wagonlit for $20 million. The Israeli company, which has been in business since the year 2000, was sold for relatively low profit, after securing $15 million in investments in its 12 years of operation.

Medical Company Bee Surgical, Part Of Misgav Accelerator Raises $2.5M
Bee Surgical, an Israeli medical company that develops technology to minimize the size of incisions necessary for laparoscopic surgery, has secured $2.5 million in investment funding. Laparoscopy is modern surgical procedure, usually used in abdominal procedure such as appendicitis, using a camera that monitors the surgery. The company is part of the Misgav Venture Accelerator, which serves Israeli medical startups.

Starbucks Launches Pilot For Wireless Phone Charging With Israeli Powermat
Israeli company Powermat, which has developed technology for wirelessly charging smartphones, continues its penetration of the American market. Powermat has launched a joint pilot program with coffee giant Starbucks, which will introduce the Israeli company’s technology in 17 on their Boston branches.

BioCancell Announces Successful Results In Pancreatic Cancer Treatment Trial
Israeli biomedical company BioCell, which develops treatments for cancer, reports positive preliminary findings in trials conducted with BC-819. The drug, developed for treatment of pancreatic cancer, has registered a 66 percent success rate in stopping the diseases progress and even reducing tumor size. The trial’s final results will be published in the beginning of 2013.

Israeli medical company Endobetix, which developed an implant to treat for type 2 diabetes, has raised $2.5 million. Endobetix is developing a nonsurgical implant that mimics the hormonal benefits offered by bariatric surgery, usually given to diabetic, obese people. The company’s product, which costs $5,000, may replace the irreversible, $30,000 surgical procedure. The company is part of the Misgav Venture Accelerator, which serves Israeli medical startups.

Canada And Israel Set Up Joint Fund To Explore Energy Science And Technology
The Canadian government is creating a joint fund with Israel to finance energy science and technology projects.
