Israeli Student Film Wins Sundance Film Festival Award
February 6, 2014 | Israeli student Yuval Hameiri’s film, “I Think This Is the Closest To How the Footage Looked,” overcame 8,161 entries from around the world to win the Short Film Jury Award: Non-Fiction category at the Sundance Film Festival, one of the world’s largest cinematic competitions for independent filmmakers. Hameiri, a student at Tel Aviv University’s Film and Television Department, made the film as part of his studies.

President Peres Sets Guinness Record For Biggest Online Civics Class
February 6, 2014 | Israeli president Shimon Peres has set a new world record. The president carried out an online civics lecture out of Cisco’s Israeli headquarters, which was viewed online by over 6,500 Israeli students from 215 classes around the country. Basil-Tree Wins Best New Development At The IPM Horticulture Show
February 5, 2014 | Israeli company Hishtil, Israel’s largest horticulture company, has won an award for “Best New Horticulture Development” at the IPM Horticulture Show, held in Essen, Germany. The award was given to a “Basil Tree,” a hybrid between basil and a bonsai tree, to make a non-stop harvest plant. The award is the first ever given to an Israeli product at the show and was developed by 78 year-old Holocaust survivor Yechezkel Dagan.

February 5, 2014 | According to the IVC Research Center, the Year 2013 was a relatively poor one for Israeli private equity activity in terms of both the number of deals and the volume of investments. Only 44 Israeli private equity deals transpired in an amount of $2.2 billion, a 39 percent decrease from $3.6 billion attracted by 55 deals in 2012.
