January 7, 2015 | The Israeli online trading platform Plus500 signed a sponsorship deal with the major Spanish soccer team Atletico Madrid. The parties signed a deal for four months, for the remainder of the 2014/2015 season, with the option to be extended in future seasons. The Plus500 logo will be featured on the back of Athletico players’ uniforms during home and away games, as well as for La Liga and King’s Cup matches. The front of the players’ shirts will continue to be sponsored by the Azerbaijan Tourism Board. None of the financial details of the deal were released, but it is estimated that Plus500 payed up to €10 million to the team. Plus500 held its IPO in London in July 2013 and today has a market cap of £690 million.

This is a five percent increase from last year, which was boosted mainly by the increase of stock market listings. MIT-Israel-BGU Seed Fund Approves Five Projects For Funding
January 7, 2015 | The MIT-Israel-BGU Seed Fund recently approved several joint research proposals for funding, supporting new collaborations between faculty and research scientists at MIT and their counterparts at Ben Gurion University. The grants extend over the period between January 2015-August 2016. Some of the approved proposals include “Self-Sustained Agriculture Based on Marginal Water,” “Improving the Delivery of Treatments in Spinal Cord Injury Using Ultrasound, and “Guiding Students’ Learning Using On-line Collaborative Annotation Tools,” among others. Square Peg Capital Commits $150M To Israeli Startups

Frutarom Plans To Reach $1B In Sales By 2016
January 6, 2015 | According to the CEO of Israeli company Frutarom, the company plans to reach $1 billion in sales as the maker of flavors for Coca-Cola and Nestle seeks more acquisitions. CEO Ori Yehuda reported to Bloomberg: “We are on track in achieving our $1 billion sales target in 2016 and possibly as early as this year.” In addition, the world’s seventh-largest flavor maker in terms of sales reported to Bloomberg that the company is in talks with at least 20 companies and is weighing the possibility for acquisitions in the industry. Since the company was founded in 2001, Frutarom has acquired 32 companies, most recently acquiring the Slovenian company Vitiva for $10 million.

Mindspace To Open Five-Story Building In Old Securities Market
January 6, 2015 | The shared office space rental company Mindspace announced that in addition to its two locations in Tel Aviv, it will open a third on Ahad Ha’am Street, at the former securities market. The building, which includes five floors and extends over 5,700 meters, will be devoted entirely to Mindspace companies looking for a fun and designed shared workspace. According to Mindspace, the building will be able to house nearly 600 workspaces, in comparison to the 320 workspaces at the Rothschild Boulevard location. The new Mindspace will also include an auditorium, a roof-top event space, gym, showers, a bike-parking station, cafeteria and an underground parking lot. The first Mindspace location was opened in May of 2014 to overwhelming success, despite the entrance of international competitor WeWork onto the Israeli startup scene.

Availo Raises $500K From Private Investors

The service takes a users’ documents in real time from which ever of the cloud services they are saved to, creating a feed of what was opened, saved and edited when. Availo was founded in 2014 by Ami Morali and Dror Sofer, employing ten in the company’s Holon offices.

January 5, 2015 | The Israeli startup WebyClip, developing technology that matches video clips with products, announced that it raised $4.2 million in funding. The funding came from existing investors Magma Venture Partners, Vertex, Maverick Ventures and angel investor Amit Gilon, bringing the total funds raised by the company since it was founded in 2013 to $5 million total. Report: Bwin To Sell Win.com To RisingTide Games
January 5, 2015 | RisingTide, a New York-based gaming company is in talks to buy Win.com, the social gaming arm of Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment. The “Wall Street Journal” reports that the terms of the sale of Win.com to RisingTide, founded by Maytal Olsha, include Bwin exchanging their share in the company for a stake in RisingTide. Bwin, one of Europe’s largest online gambling companies, established Win.com in 2012 to gain a bigger stake in online casino gaming.
