Israeli company Voiceitt, a developer of speech recognition technology for atypical speech, won a “Best of Innovation” award on Monday in the accessibility category at the annual CES (International Consumer Electronics Show) 2021 conference, taking place virtually this year.
The company, founded in 2012, was honored for its unique app that allows people with speech and motor impairments (following brain injuries, strokes, mental disabilities, degenerative diseases, and other potential speech impairments) to communicate with their own voice. Voiceitt uses proprietary machine learning and automatic speech recognition (ASR) technologies to identify and adapt to individuals’ unique impaired speech patterns like breathing pauses and non-verbal sounds so they can communicate and control smart devices.
The announcement was made ahead of CES 2021, the most influential technology event in the world, which will run between January 11-14 this year.
The CES Innovation Awards program, owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), honors outstanding design and engineering in consumer technology products across 28 product categories. Israel’s OrCam also won a “Best of Innovation” award in the accessibility category for its OrCam Read digital reader, a handheld device that reads out texts.
A number of other Israeli companies were named as honorees in the CES Innovation Awards, including Brodmann17, a software technology company that can run deep learning vision on edge devices and was recognized in the vehicle intel and transportation category; and Vayyar Imaging in two categories: vehicle intel and mobile devices. Vayyar is a developer of 4D imaging sensors that can help “see” through objects, including walls, liquids and human tissue.
Voiceitt CEO and co-founder Danny Weissberg said in a company statement that Voiceitt was honored “to be selected as a CES Innovation Awards Honoree and to be added to their prestigious ranks of gold standard products.
“For us, this award is not only an acknowledgment of the value of our product, but also a celebration of our ability to increase the independence and quality of life for individuals with speech impairments,” he added.
Voiceitt’s app is integrated with Amazon Alexa, enabling people with speech impairments to use their own iPhone or iPad app to access and control Alexa. The app is available for pre-order on the Apple app store.
The company is based in Tel Aviv and has offices in the US.
