Solar panels that come on a roll made by an Israeli company have been certified as safe in the US and Europe by a world-renowned photovoltaic (PV) testing lab.
Apollo Power’s new flexible panels can be placed on virtually any surface, from sidewalks and golf carts and airplanes.
The startup received its certification from Solar PTL, an independent testing lab that inspected and tested the safety of its solar panel components.
The panels, which were first inaugurated in January at the company’s factory in the northern city of Yokneam Illit, can now connect to the Israeli electrical grid and generate clean energy.
The company also says that it has just signed an agreement with a Turkish company to top its trucks and buses with its solar panels.
Pilots conducted by the company found that the installation of its solar panel on a single truck can reduce carbon emissions by about four tons annually, and even result in fuel savings of five to eight percent.
“The certification we received today for our product and the factory we established in Israel earlier this year is a significant achievement that attests to the product’s reliability,” said Oded Rozenberg, CEO of Apollo Power.
“It allows us to sell and connect to the electrical grid in many countries worldwide, with a strong emphasis on the European and American markets,” he said.
“This certification comes with excellent timing, coinciding with the agreement for the distribution of our products in Turkey, and it appears to be another important step toward Apollo Power becoming a market leader in the field of solar energy utilization in commercial vehicle fleets.”
