One American and five Israeli startups have been announced as the winners of this year’s MassChallenge Israel Early-Stage Accelerator Program, a four-month intensive course in Jerusalem that helps entrepreneurs advance their nascent companies.
The winners were decided by various criteria, MassChallenge Israel said, including their ability to present a clear business strategy and their potential to have a positive global impact. Of the 30 startups in the program, just over half were women-led and 40 percent had a founder directly affected by Israel’s ongoing war against the Hamas terror group in Gaza.
The award ceremony was held July 2, marking the end of the program. All six startups will take part in an all-expenses-paid roadshow to New York and Boston designed to help them expand on the international stage.
“As Israel’s largest and most diverse zero-equity accelerator, MassChallenge is committed to nurturing game-changing ideas into globally competitive enterprises and, in the current climate, our mission is even more critical,” said MassChallenge Israel Managing Director Motti Sigel.
“Our founders are not only building companies, but answering the call of a nation under fire. With 40 percent of our cohort directly impacted by the ongoing war, these inspiring founders are transforming adversity into opportunity, defying a 70 percent investment downturn to achieve remarkable milestones.”
