An Israeli company that uses waves to create energy has signed an agreement to bring its technology to Los Angeles Port, marking its first foray into the US market.
Eco Wave Power and Shell International Exploration and Production (part of Shell oil company) will work together to launch the Israeli technology at the port.
The two companies also carried out a joint, three-month feasibility study to examine other locations both in the United States and worldwide that are compatible with clean energy production, and have identified at least 77 potential sites in the US.
The company’s system transfers the motion of ocean waves to power stations on land using its uniquely shaped floating devices, which rise and fall with the waves’ up-and-down motion and the changes in water levels. The power stations convert the energy into fluid pressure used to spin a generator, producing electricity.
In January, the company started supplying the Israel Electric Corporation with electricity generated at its power station in the Port of Jaffa.
“Harnessing the power of ocean waves is a crucial step in reshaping the renewable energy landscape to meet the net-zero goals we must reach if we want to save our planet,” said Eco Wave Power founder and CEO Inna Braverman.
“I am thrilled to work with an industry leader to bring wave energy to life in the United States. This underscores our commitment to sustainable innovation, and signifies a pivotal moment as we move towards a cleaner, greener future,” she said.
