Israeli and US scientists who are using their research to address pressing food security issues may be eligible to receive up to four million shekels (approx. $1 million), as part of a new competitive program launched by the Israeli and American governments.
This new program is being jointly operated by the Israeli Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and BARD (the US-Israel Binational Agricultural Research and Development Fund), which runs competitive funding programs that support the research of agricultural problems jointly conducted by American and Israeli scientists.
Researchers developing innovative approaches for food production and consumption will be those chosen to receive the funding.
“The signing of this new agreement is further proof of the deepening of the science and technology partnership between Israel and the US,” said Ofir Akunis, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology.
“The new agreement between the two countries will strengthen our long-standing scientific ties, which are getting stronger and stronger in areas of high priorities both to Israel and the US.”
Prof. Yoram Kapulnik, BARD’s Executive Director, said: “Nutritional security is a crucial matter and a top priority for investment in both Israel and the US.
“When every individual has access to high-quality and safe food, we all benefit. We also aspire to assist individuals with specific nutritional requirements, vulnerable populations, and young children who represent our future, through collaborative research with leading scientists in the United States.”
