A central Tel Aviv pizza shop called Bezzo Pizza has nabbed the seventh spot on a list of the 50 Best Pizza Slices in the World put together by Big 7 Travel, a travel site with a readership of over 1.5 million by the Big 7 Media group.
The group runs original content websites across three categories — travel, food, and hotels — for a mobile-savvy millennial audience.
Finalists from across the world were selected through votes cast in a poll sent to Big 7 readers on social media as well as through Big 7’s editorial team. According to the site, online reviews, previous media coverage, and notable blogs were also included in the overall rating.
“Some of the greatest slices are found in unusual places but are well worth traveling for,” the publication writes, “A simple slice of dough might seem the same to many people, but in the hands of the artists who make these pizza slices they have turned them into works of art.”
Bezzo Pizza – walking distance from the Mediterranean Sea – claimed its spot in the top 10 for its “absolutely stunning” pizza slices the site calls “melt in the mouth good.” The pizza shop cooks its long rectangle pizzas and then slices them for display on the counter, so customers can mix and match several toppings.
L’industrie Pizzeria in New York City took the top spot for a combination of a “perfect base and super imaginative toppings,” (think creme fraiche, mozzarella, fig jam, bacon, goat cheese and mozzarella, ricotta, gorgonzola, fresh grapes, parmigiano, basil). Fermo Pizza in Naples, Italy, ranked second followed by Pizza Pala Romana in Bangkok, Thailand, and Slice Downtown in Atlanta, Georgia. Just above Bezzo, Pizzarium in Rome, Italy took the fifth spot and Primo Basilico in Lisbon, Portugal placed sixth.
