Israel’s very own Wonder Woman, actress Gal Gadot, is set to appear at the Eurovision final set for May 18 in Tel Aviv. Gadot had previously turned down an offer to host the event, a job that went to Israeli supermodel and businesswoman Bar Refaeli, Arab-Israeli poet, TV presenter and radio host Lucy Ayoub, popular TV host Erez Tal, and TV host and show creator Assi Azar.
Israeli organizers of the annual competition released a statement this week outlining the official events surrounding the big day, including performances by popular Israeli singer Idan Raichel, Dana International, who won the Eurovision in 1998 with her song “Diva,” and Netta Barzilai, who won last year’s contest with female empowerment anthem “Toy” in Lisbon, Portugal.
Barzilai is set to perform a new single and a unique version of “Toy.”
Past participants from various countries will also perform at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 including Conchita Wurst (Austria), Eleni Foureira (Greece), Verka Serduchka (Ukraine), Måns Zelmerlöw (Sweden) and Israel’s Gali Atari, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979.
The Israeli group Shalva Band, which stole hearts this year as it competed in the “The Next Star” singing competition show which selects Israel’s entry to the Eurovision contest will perform at the semi-final. The band, made up of musicians with various disabilities, withdrew from the contest rather than perform on Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest, when the final will take place.
This year’s Israeli entrant is Kobi Marimi.
Madonna is set to perform two songs in the final.
