Tel Aviv’s Norman boutique hotel was voted among the 50 best hotels in the world and first in the Middle East category in luxury travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler’s 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards.
The magazine worked with over 400,000 surveys answered by readers on a variety of destinations, hotels, resorts, airports, and airlines.
The Norman Tel Aviv came in 21st place in the list of 50 best hotels in the world, and topped a round-up of 15 of the Middle East’s most highly rated hotels with a score of 99.29.
In the Middle East ratings, the King David hotel in Jerusalem placed second, while the Waldorf Astoria in Jerusalem came 8th, followed by the city’s David Citadel, and the Mamilla hotel in 11th place. Other top hotels in the category included the Waldorf Astoria in Dubai, the Ritz Carlton in Bahrain, and the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha, Qatar.

The hotel La Mamounia, in Marrakech, Morocco was crowned the best hotel in the world out of 50 in the awards for getting “just about everything right — a standard kept since 1923,” according to Conde Nast Traveler. Second place went to the Cartesiano hotel in Puebla, Mexico, and third was the COMO Uma Punakha resort in Bhutan.

The Norman hotel is located steps away from Tel Aviv’s famous Rothschild Boulevard and boasts 50 individually designed rooms spread between two historic townhouses at 23 and 25 Nachmani street, divided by a plush Mediterranean citrus garden
The main building at 25 Nachmani features 30 unique guestrooms while 23 Nachmani features “a lavish collection of 20 magnificent one-of-a-kind suites available for long or short-term stays, brimming with historic character and splendor and benefiting from all the services of the hotel.”

“There’s a rooftop infinity pool, a 1940s-style Library Bar, a formal French-Mediterranean brasserie, and an excellent Izakaya-style Japanese restaurant—so you won’t want for activity (or sustenance) while you’re here,” wrote Conde Nast Traveler.
Spa treatments, in-house yoga and pilates, and a 24-hour modern gym are also on-hand for guests, as well as a personalized detox juicing program.
Originally built in 1925 for a wealthy Jewish family, the Norman Tel Aviv opened in 2014, following eight years of renovations totaling $10 million. The room price includes à la carte breakfast and a free shuttle ride to the beach. The hotel is named after the late businessman Normal Lourie, whose grandson is said to have shares in the hotel.

The hotel has won a number of accolades, including in 2015 when it was named the world’s best boutique hotel by luxury American tourism magazine Jetsetter, and in 2017 when it made Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold List.
Yaron Liberman, the hotel’s CEO, was quoted by the Jerusalem Post as saying that the newest award brings “tremendous pride for this hotel in particular and for the Israeli tourism industry in general.”
