September 22, 2014 | Takwin Labs, a new incubator for the Arab Israeli community, announced that it closed $4.5 million in Series A funding. Takwin (meaning Genesis or ‘start’ in Arabic) Labs will focus on mobile and internet technology startups, with the hope that it will be able to help Arab Israeli entrepreneurship grow. The incubator was created out of cooperation between MK Erel Margalit, the founder of Jerusalem Venture Partners, Chemi Peres, founder and managing partner at Pitango Venture Capital and the Al Bawader, the first venture capital investment firm for the Arab Israeli community, and founder of Babcom Centers Imad Telhami. Takwin Labs is based in Haifa, Israel, raising the Series A funding from Israeli, Arab and American investors, with plans to raise a total of $20 million. In the coming year, Takwin Labs will invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in 4-6 startup companies.
