As part of a deal agreed upon by the Jordanian and Israeli governments, Jordan will supply Israel with desalinated water produced at a Red Sea plant, and in exchange, will receive freshwater from Israel’s Sea of Galilee.
The deal is aimed to replace the infamous Red Sea-Dead Sea Canal project, which was axed due to environmental concern. The entire project is estimated at $1 billion, which is one-tenth of what the original project would have cost.
