Last week, at the Ariel Conference for Ethics in the Media, Rabbi David Zilbershlag announced that a smartphone approved by a rabbinical committee will soon be launched in Israel. In general, the ultra-orthodox community disapproves of smartphones due to their internet capabilities.
Globes reports that the new smartphone will have email capabilities and that it in the future, smartphones will be ranked according to how “kosher” they are. According to Zilbershlag, the phone is essential for incorporating ultra-orthodox Jews in the work force.
