In the forest, trees are known to compete for resources such as light and nutrients, but an Israeli researcher discovered that the same trees also engage in sharing.

The sought-after Argan oil, once produced only in Morocco, is now being developed in Israel by “Sivan.” The company created what it says is a super strain of Argan, tolerant to local climate and producing 10 times more nuts than the average tree in Morocco.

Environmental scientists are planting hardy trees in the Arava Desert, an non-fertile area, in order to improve air quality and provide renewable fuels. The team is hopeful that the project will not only help reduce humanity's carbon footprint but will also demonstrate how countries can establish a local plant species on land thought unusable.
