Israeli company Given Imaging, which developed a pill camera camera to replace invasive procedures such as colonoscopies, has been acquired by international Irish healthcare corporation Covidien for $860 M.

Half of Americans over 50 choose to forgo colonoscopies, despite the fact it can save their lives, because the procedure is sometimes uncomfortable. Given Imaging, an Israeli medical company, pioneered a non-invasive method of detecting disorders in the gastrointestinal tract with PillCam.

An Israeli company has come up with a tiny capsule you can swallow that detects polyps painlessly as it travels through the colon. The capsule's tiny X-ray radar device creates a 3D image of the colon with minimal exposure to radiation.

Malignant colorectal tumors are preventable, and when caught as precancerous polyps, growths can be safely removed.
