The European Commission has chosen the Human Brain Project, in which the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is participating, as one of two Future and Emerging Technologies Flagship topics. The enterprise will receive funding of €1.19 billion over the next decade.

Blue I Technologies Ltd., an Israeli company that develops advanced water quality monitoring systems, has announced that it has raised $3 million. The investment was led by Effi Capital. Blue I will use the funds to expand its operations to South America and India.

Brainsway Trial Shows Significant Results For Smoking Addiction Treatment
Israeli company Brainsway, which developed a device called Deep TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation), for treating various brain-related disorders, has announced a successful trial of its treatment for smoking addiction. 84 percent of subjects in the trial quit smoking after receiving the treatment, of which approx. one-third were still non-smokers after a six month period.

€250M Wind Power Plant To Be Built In Northern Israel
50 wind turbines, generating 120 megawatts of electricity, will be built in Emek Habacha in the Golan region of northern Israel. Each turbine will stand approx. 150 meters tall. The project, estimated at €250 million, will be one of the largest in the Middle East and is expected to go online in 2015.

ARGO Launches ReWalk Rehabilitation 2.0
Israeli company ARGO Medical Technologies, which develops exoskeleton technology to help the disabled walk using robotic prosthetics, has launched ReWalk 2.0. The 2.0 system is designed to make it easier to treat multiple individuals each day, it also has new software features that support beginner users and new sizing that allows each system to fit a broader range of patients.

Intucell Acquired By Cisco For $475M
Israeli company Intucell, which develops technology that allows cellular carriers to handle more traffic on their grid, has been acquired by communication technology giant Cisco. Cisco has announced that the acquisition price will be a whopping $475 million.

Israel 7th In Innovation On GE Global Innovation Barometer
General Electric (GE) has released its Global Innovation Barometer report, which ranks countries according to their innovative qualities. After being ranked 10th last year, Israel has climbed three spots, to number seven in the rankings. The first place was given to the US, followed by Germany and China.

Two Hadasit Bio-Holdings Companies Receive $700,000
Hadasit Bio-Holdings Ltd., a publicly traded portfolio of biotech companies, all based on intellectual property developed and owned by Hadassah University Hospital, has announced that two of its portfolio companies, ProtAb and Enlivex, have received approximately $700,000 in convertible loans from Hadasit Bio-Holdings and its partners.

Cellrox Raises $4.7M In Series A Financing Round
Israeli company Cellrox, which provides a multi-persona solution for smart mobile devices that enables two or more individual to co-exist on one device, has announced that it has raised $4.7 million in a series A financing round. The round was led by Runa Capital, with participation from existing investors Previz Venture Partners, Columbia Technology Ventures, and others.

Intigua Raises $8.6M In Series A Financing Round
Israeli company Intigua, which deals in enterprise cloud management, has announced that it has raised $8.6 in a series A financing round. The company was founded by Israelis in 2009 and currently operates out of Newton, Massachusetts with a development center in Israel.

Israeli-American Startup Abe’s Market Raises $5M
Abe’s Market, an online organic e-commerce platform founded in Israeli in 2009, has announced that it has raised $5 million in a financing round. The website, currently only operating in the US, deals in organic products, from baby food to fashion accessories. The company operates out of Chicago with offices in Jerusalem.

Asteroid Named After Hebrew University By Astronomical Society
The International Astronomical Union has named an asteroid in honor of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, to be called “Hebrewu.” The asteroid, officially known as Asteroid 271,763, was discovered by Canadian astronomer David Levy, who is renowned for being part of the duo that discovered the Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet in 1994.

Sensegon Raises $1M In Series B Financing Round
Israeli company Sensegon, which develops a personality recognition engine for advertising companies, has announced that it has raised $1 million in a series B financing round. The round was led by an American private equity fund. Sensgon has raised $3 million to date.

Israeli company Quiet Therapeutics Ltd. has announced that it has raised $5.5 million. The company, which develops nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems for chemotherapy and anti-inflammatory, has already received $300,000. The initial sum will be used for a feasibility study of the technology, and if successful, the rest of the funds will be transferred.
