Israeli startup Otonomo, a data services platform for autonomous and connected cars, announced on Monday it has entered an agreement with Mitsubishi Motors to provide the Japanese automaker’s connected car customers with a range of new services.
Mitsubishi Motors will get access to a network of over 100 partners who will provide services such as parking apps, smart electric vehicle charging, and mapping.
The joint initiative will begin rolling out in the US and Europe throughout 2020.
Mitsubishi Motors will join Otonomo’s growing base of automotive OEMs, which include Daimler AG, as well as partnerships with US car rental company Avis Budget Group and software giant Microsoft to expand its range of services.
The companies ensure compliance with international privacy regulations like GDPR.
“Connected car services are a crucial way to enhance the driving experience for our customers, who demand high levels of safety and comfort as well as convenience in their vehicles today. We are excited to be working with Otonomo on this initiative that will drive the development and deployment of value-added services that meet today’s drivers’ needs and increase data utilization from our connected models,” said Shingaku Kochi, general manager of Connected Information Business Department, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.
Founded by CEO Ben Volkow and Avner Cohen in 2015, Otonomo has created a marketplace that enables car manufacturers, service providers, and app developers to exchange car data. The company operates in the US, Europe, and Japan.
The data collected by the Otonomo platform will also enable Mitsubishi Motors to make connected car data available for applications that benefit society such as improving road safety and traffic flow.
“Mitsubishi Motors and Otonomo have a common ambition to improve the connection between cars, society, and the environment,” said Ben Volkow, CEO and co-founder of Otonomo. “Our role in enabling Mitsubishi Motors to expand their service offerings will make life on the road safer, smarter and more convenient.”
