Sino-Israel Center To Launch At Bar-Ilan University Nanotech Institute

Israel’s Bar-Ilan University Institute of Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials (BINA) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) signed a joint agreement in Beijing on Tuesday to establish a Chinese Center of Excellence within Israel’s Bar-Ilan University

The Chinese National Academy of Sciences will set up the center, which will include a research lab focused on nanomedicine, 2D materials engineering, and graphene production. The center will host scientists from additional research institutes in Israel, according to a Bar-Ilan University statement.

The signing ceremony took place at the Chinese National Nanotechnology and Nanoscience Institute (NCNST) in the presence of diplomats from the Israeli Embassy in Beijing. The agreement was signed by the host, Professor Yuliang Zhao, the director of the institute, and Professor Dror Fixler, Director of the BINA.

The main goal of the joint research laboratory, according to the agreement, will be to integrate teamwork between Chinese and Israeli researchers and industrialists from both countries. This will facilitate the transfer of theoretical research, specializing in nanomedical materials and graphene into products, readily available to consumers.

“This significant collaboration, amounting to a few million yuan, ultimately aims to create new job opportunities,” explained Prof. Fixler in the statement. “It’s an initiative that will lead to the economic growth of both China and Israel.”

The research conducted at the center will “pave the way for significantly advancing Sino-Israel scientific relations and whose impact may well be felt in the near future,” the university said.

The signing of the agreement is the highlight of a visit to China by a senior delegation from Bar-Ilan University to conduct talks regarding the new center. The delegation includes 13 researchers and members of BINA, including Prof. Fixler, Institute Director, Prof. Zeev Zalevsky, Prof. David Zitoun, Prof. Ehud Banin, Prof. Yaron Shav-Tal, Prof. Rachela Popovtzer, Prof. Doron Gerber, Prof. Yitzhak Mastai, Prof. Yuval Garini, Dr. Yossi Talyosef, BINA Administrative Manager, and Dr. Danielle Gurevich, Deputy Director of BINA.
