The Black Food Festival showcasing food that is the color black – from bagels to macarons, ice cream, cocktails, and polenta – is making its way to Tel Aviv in February for a premier event in the White City.
The event gathers chefs, cooks, and mixologists from across restaurants, bars, and cafes in the city for innovative food creations that are black in color but not artificial. Creators must use natural ingredients such as black coffee, dark chocolates, blackberries, and balsamic vinegar.
The festival includes a competition for the Black Food of The Year and Black Drink of The Year Awards, judged by celebrity foodies, gastronomists, and professional chefs.
It is part of the global Black Food Festival network, which began in Budapest, Hungary in November, followed by a festival in Berlin this month. Tel Aviv is next and organizers have plans to hit 20 more cities over the next two years.
The Berlin festival hosted 12 exhibitors at the event, which awarded the Black Food of the Year prize to the creators of a “black polenta with mushrooms and butter-sage insects.” The Tel Aviv festival is set to host some 15 exhibitors, organizers say.
The Tel Aviv event will include exhibits of black “design and fashion items, accessories and decoration[s] …and of course, throwing an underground after party as well,” according to the organizers.
The Black Food Festival was founded in 2016 by Regina Boros, a food enthusiast, blogger, and marketing professional from Budapest.
