Computer Vision Company EyeSight Raises $15M To Expand Into Auto Field

Israeli computer vision company EyeSight announced that it has closed a $15 million funding round to expand into the automotive field using its innovative technology that detects user presence, and actives interactions using touch-free gesture control. The round was led by Jebsen Capital, Arie Capital and Mizrahi Tefahot.

EyeSight makes vision-based solutions for smart homes and consumer electronics, using human detection and tracking systems to enable automatic customization and gesture control.

It has now developed a new in-cabin vehicle AI computer vision system, which will “monitor a driver’s gaze direction, pupil dilation, eye openness and head position and uses proprietary algorithms to detect levels of drowsiness and distraction.” It will “also scan the entire cabin of a car, understanding who and what is in the vehicle,” including children to “ensure that babies aren’t forgotten in locked cars.”

EyeSight has its eyes set on the emerging field of autonomous vehicles that will require a driver monitoring system as well as safety guidelines. “The system must be sure that a driver is alert and awake before it hands over control of a moving car to a human,” the company says.

It’s also looking at the car-sharing industry, promising “a range of futuristic time-saving conveniences,” such as “automatically adjusting the driver’s seat and mirrors or selecting their music playlist.”

Based in Herzliya, the company was founded in 2005 by CTO Itay Katz.
