The public safety technology startup Carbyne, previously called Reporty, announced that it raised $15 million in a Series B funding round led by Elsted Capital Partners, with strategic investment from the Founders Fund. It is the San Francisco-based VC firm’s first investment in Israel.
Carbyne, founded in 2014, received a $1.5 million seed investment in 2015 from Ehud Barak, an Israeli former prime minister, who now serves as chairman of the board.
Carbyne developed a holistic emergency response communication platform for first responders and emergency personnel using advanced technologies. It says it provides a digitized solutions for outdated infrastructures. “Carbyne’s ecosystem is a state-of-the-art solution for the 911 community, compiled of advanced IP based Call handling (CPE) system, full infrastructure and apps…and acts as the gateway for delivering rich and smart data to Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), helping call takers analyze and process what is happening in real-time, provide accurate support, slash time to dispatch and ultimately save lives,” the company says.
Carbyne said in a statement that it will use the investment “to expand the company’s footprint in markets throughout the world while bolstering R&D for their transformative Next Generation 911 solutions.”
“People expect cutting-edge, highly effective services when it comes to emergencies and public safety,” said Barak in the statement. “That is what makes Carbyne and its wide-ranging, advanced technologies so in demand. Their founders and the team are so creative, focused and energetic that I’m confident that, with the entry of Founders Fund, a great future lies ahead for the company.”
Carbyne was founded by entrepreneurs Alex Dizengof, Amir Elichai, Lital Leshem, and Yoni Yatsun. It is headquartered in Tel Aviv with offices in New York, Mexico, and Ukraine.
Elichai, who serves as Carbybe’s CEO, welcomed the announcement, saying: “Founders Fund’s participation in this investment round is extremely significant. Aside from the enormous pride we take in being their first investment in Israel, the value brought by such a fund – which helped build some of Silicon Valley’s legendary companies – is enormous. We are looking at a vast market with enormous potential and we’re only just scratching the surface. We couldn’t ask for a better partner for our team, this is only the beginning of our transformation of the global emergency communication ecosystem.”
Trae Stephens, a partner at Founders Fund, said: “It is critically important that we fix our dilapidated emergency response systems around the world. Carbyne’s technology will replace outdated infrastructure and provide powerful new capabilities to first responders.”
The Founders Fund has invested in hundreds of startups and has been an early backer of some of the most significant companies of the past decade, including SpaceX, Palantir, Facebook, and Airbnb.
