UK’s Prince William To Meet With 4 Israeli Startups During Historic Trip

June 25, 2018 | Britain’s Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge is set to meet with four Israeli tech companies during his historic trip to Israel, and Palestinian areas this week, according to the Israeli Government Press Office.

The 36-year-old royal will arrive later Monday in Tel Aviv for a three-day visit that will include meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara at the Prime Minister’s Residence in Jerusalem, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin at the President’s Residence, a trip to the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, a soccer game with the participation of Jewish and Arab children, at the Neve Golan Stadium in Jaffa, sponsored in part by the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation, and a reception at the British ambassador’s residence. The prince will also make his way to the West Bank for a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, having kicked off his Middle East tour with a visit to Jordan on Sunday, where he was greeted by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah.

Tuesday’s reception at the British Ambassador’s residence in the prince’s honor will include a series of meetings with representative from four Israeli companies: ReWalk Robotics, the Israeli developer of a robotic exoskeleton system that helps the paralyzed to walk, OrCam, the developers of vision-based assistive products founded by Amnon Shashua and Ziv Aviram, also the founders of Mobileye, Myndlift, which develops wearable and mobile technology designed to enhance cognitive abilities through brain wave therapy, and AlgoBrix, which teaches kids to program and code through play.

Prince William’s visit will be the first official visit by a member of the royal family to Israel. His father Prince Charles and his grandfather Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, had previously made unofficial trips to Israel to visit the tomb of Princess Alice of Battenberg and Greece, Charles’ grandmother and Philip’s mother, respectively. She is buried at the Convent of Saint Mary Magdalene on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. Princess Alice is recognized as Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem for her role in rescuing a Jewish family in Greece during the Holocaust.
