January 6, 2016 | Israeli app developer Moovit is launching a carpooling pilot called Moovit Carpool, which will allow private drivers to offer rides for a small charge. The fee to the rider will be similar to the price of public transport for the same journey. Founded in 2011 and led by Co-Founder and CEO Nir Erez, Moovit’s original app combines live public transit data with crowdsourced inputs, giving commuters a real-time snapshot of their trip route, while suggesting faster, and more convenient alternatives (i.e. a taxi ordered through Gett). The company has already raised over $80 million, including sizable investments from Sequoia, Gemini and BRM, as well as Waze Co-Founder and former President Uri Levine.
