October 6, 2015 | Facebook has announced that it will use Israeli Aerospace Industries’ AMOS-6 communications satellite to provide Internet access in sub-Saharan Africa. The announcement comes as part of Facebook’s initiative internet.org to provide Internet access to those whom have never had access to the world wide web. Facebook has partnered with the French satellite company Eutelsat, which in turn will cooperate with Israeli company Spacecom, to operate the AMOS-6 satellite above Africa. Spacecom, which is owned by Shaul Elovitch, is expected to earn some $95 million from the operation of the satellite.
