November 11, 2014 | The trip-ordering application Uber announced today (Tuesday) that it will release its UberX feature in Tel Aviv this weekend. UberX is a controversial feature that allows any private driver to turn his vehicle into a taxi cab ready for passengers. According to the company, the service will be available this weekend to a limited number of ‘experimental’ participants and passengers will ride free of charge. The service is controversial within Israel and in other locations around the world because of the lack of regulation, which is why Uber will offer the service free of charge this weekend. Uber is a ridesharing service founded by Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp in 2009.
