Israeli knowledge management startup Upword has unveiled its new AI-powered research assistant tool and announced it has completed a $3 million pre-seed funding round.
The research tool uses Generative AI to provide a personalized experience for the user, based on traditional methods while also increasing productivity.
The assistant uses a sophisticated interface that includes a managed content library and AI co-pilot, among other newly developed tools.
The launch comes after a beta trial of 30,000 users and 1,000 paying clients. And while the tool is designed for use in the world of academia, half of the paid subscriptions came from other sectors.
The funding round included investment from prominent companies such as SPanish telecoms giant Telefonica and American VC firms Go Ahead Ventures and Goodwater Capital.
“For researchers, the advancement of AI has had little effect on the way they work,” said Upword founder and CEO Roee Barak.
“The rigorous, step-by-step methodology that defines research has made AI chatbots overwhelming and often inconvenient. While studying in law school, my vision was to build productivity tools that kept me in control, accommodating the need for nuance and rigor in scholarly work while providing the benefits of generative AI. Upword was the result. Now, students, academics, and professionals across many industries have access to a tool that delivers on the promise of GenAI.”
