Israeli military technology company Elbit Systems has been given a $50 million contract by an unnamed international client for its new air defense system Red Sky.
The Tactical Very Short-range Air Defense (VSHORAD) System protects against low-altitude aerial threats, using both soft-kill (diverting a missile from its target) and -kill (destroying a missile before it reaches its target) capabilities.
As part of the two-year contract, Elbit will provide its Redrone system, an electronic warfare (EW) solution that includes radar, sensors and jammers, as well as anti-aircraft missile launchers.
The advanced DAiR radar, which incorporates hundreds of digital receivers, has the ability to simultaneously detect both ground and air targets and track up to 10,000 targets.
The system can detect, identify, locate, track and neutralize hostile unmanned aerial systems (UAS) during day and night, both in urban and rural environments and under various weather conditions.
“The Red Sky system represents a state-of-the-art solution that addresses the urgent need to defend borders and secure strategic assets against a wide array of aerial threats at an affordable cost,” said Yehuda Vered, General Manager of Elbit Systems Land.
“This new defense solution was created based on close collaboration between Elbit Systems’ divisions, utilizing existing Elbit Systems building blocks and integrating them into a comprehensive new solution with new anti-aircraft missiles and advanced soft-kill defense mechanisms,” he said.
