An Israeli medtech company has unveiled what it says is a revolutionary new corrective brace to treat a range of pediatric foot conditions, including an issue common in newborns.
The brace made by UNFO Med resembles an open-toe sandal and, calling it a “significant milestone in pediatric orthopedic care,” the Holon-based company says it replaces the need for a young child to be placed in a cast or undergo surgical intervention.
The brace primarily treats Metatarsus Adductus (MTA), a congenital condition that causes the front half of the foot to turn inwards, and which untreated can cause deformity, pain and even walking issues.
According to the company, this condition occurs in 7 percent of newborns – a statistic that increases to 12 percent if an older sibling also has MTA.
“As a pediatric orthopedic specialist, my goal has always been to provide the best possible care for newborns facing challenges such as Metatarsus Adductus,” said UNFO Med CEO Dr. Izak Daizade.
“UNFO’s corrective foot brace represents a significant advancement in our approach to pediatric orthopedics. This non-invasive solution not only transforms the treatment of newborns born with MTA, but also signifies a new era of proactive and compassionate care. I am excited about the positive impact this innovation will have on the lives of infants and their families across the US,” he said.
