A new innovation center dedicated to climate and desert technology companies is opening in the southern Israeli city of Be’er Sheva, at a cost of 15 million shekels.
The center is one of nine that were recently established around the less centralized parts of Israel, and will span across the Negev and Arava regions.
It aims to develop and establish new companies in the relevant fields, as well as strengthen the high-tech sector in the southern areas – creating jobs and acting as a guide for integrating local residents into the industry.
The center is the creation of a range of organizations, including the Merage Foundation Israel, the Israeli Innovation Institute and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
The founders have devised a program based on an understanding of the regional and global challenges faced by both companies and countries, which will integrate academic technologies and work with leading industry professionals.
“I am delighted to join a valuable and professional partnership group in joint efforts to promote the Negev and realize its potential in the desert tech and climate sector,” said Dr. Yehudit Zilberstein, the center’s director.
“Promoting quality employment in leading and required technological professions. I see this as a mission during these challenging times.”
