Helmets developed by an Israeli company that ease symptoms of depression and anxiety will be supplied to US military members and veterans.
The Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS) treatment, developed by BrainsWay, uses magnetic pulses to stimulate cells in the region of the brain involved in mood control and depression.
Now, it will be expanding its partnership and supplying additional units to Katie’s Way, which provides mental health services tailored to the unique needs of active duty soldiers and retired veterans. The organization’s offshoot, Katie’s Way Plus, offers mental health services that also utilize technology including Deep TMS and virtual reality.
TMS is typically used when other methods of treatments for mental health illnesses haven’t been effective. It involves placing an electromagnetic coil against the scalp and near the forehead.
BrainsWay says its patented design enables deeper and broader stimulation than traditional TMS coils and is aimed at patients with depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and smoking addiction.
“We are thrilled to support Katie’s Way Plus in its vital mission to provide focused care to U.S. service members, veterans, and their families,” said BrainsWay CEO Hadar Levy.
“BrainsWay’s advanced Deep TMS technology has demonstrated remarkable clinical efficacy in treating depression, and we are confident that this expansion will bring hope and healing to many US service members.”
Jeff Mathis, Founder of Katie’s Way, said: “Katie’s Way was founded in memory of my daughter, Katie, who tragically lost her battle with depression.”
“Our goal is to ensure that no other family needs to endure such pain. These additional BrainsWay systems will allow us to extend our reach, offer hope, and ultimately save lives,” he said.
