An Israeli startup believes it has made a breakthrough in its technology that will allow companies to grow cultivated meat at a far faster pace.
ProFuse Technology has developed a catalyst comprising “small molecules” that speeds up the process of growing cultivated stem cells and increases yields.
Now, the company says, the fluid used to support the stem cells’ growth can grow muscle tissue within 48 hours.
The process of growing cultivated meat normally takes between two to eight weeks, depending on the kind of meat that is being cultivated.
Additionally, the startup says that its technology can increase muscle tissue protein by five times and offer a protein-rich alternative to traditional meat sources.
“ProFuse Technology’s proprietary media supplements and protocols achieve effective muscle production in a 3D environment without resorting to genetic modification,” said ProFuse CTO Dr. Tamar Eigler-Hirsh.
“Our commitment lies in supporting production of sustainable, ethical, and delectable alternatives to conventionally farmed meat,” she said.
Eigler-Hirsh used her post-doctoral research into how mice regenerate muscle tissue to develop the accelerated growth process for cultivated meat.
ProFuse Technology was founded in 2021, and is based in Kiryat Shmona, northern Israel.
