Israeli citizens can now request a digital version of their birth certificate, the country’s Population and Immigration Authority has announced.
The digital record will be sent immediately to their email or mobile device, complete with a digital signature, removing the need to personally attend a government office and wait days or weeks for the document to arrive in the mail.
The digitized version of the document is equivalent to any physical birth certificate issued at governmental offices.
“In 2023, the public expects services to come to them where they are, rather than them coming to receive services,” said Eyal Sisso, Director General of the Population and Immigration Authority.
“The Authority is committed to digitization and progress, and the launch of the new service constitutes a particularly significant leap forward,” he said.
The initiative was independently led and developed by the Population Administration and Digital Technologies Division of the Population and Immigration Authority, in cooperation with the Informations and Communications Authority.
The digitization of government documents and records not only makes them more readily accessible to the public, but cuts costs in materials (of creating and maintaining hard copies) and the staff hours needed to capture and process the information.
