Dave is a new oncology mentor who provides support to cancer patients. He’s also an AI conversational chatbot.
The chatbot is able to provide oncology-specific, precise, comprehensive and empathetic answers to cancer patients’ challenges. It also communicates empathetically with users and retains a long-term memory of previous conversations, allowing multiple chat sessions.
Dave was developed by Belong.Life, a company that has created social networks for patients with cancer, multiple sclerosis, and other chronic illnesses.
They trained the chatbot using patient-physician and patient-to-patient interactions collected from the company’s Beating Cancer Together app, where users can also communicate with other patients and cancer care professionals. It can be used for free through the app.
The chatbot has been tested by more than 10,000 people with cancer, who according to the company “have praised it for providing oncologist-like support and empathetic care.”
“Belong’s AI oncology mentor, Dave, marks a significant milestone in our journey to revolutionize the health industry,” said Eliran Malki, CEO of Belong.Life.
“Dave provides smart, personalized and accessible information instantaneously, which can greatly improve the quality of care and life for millions of patients worldwide.
“Belong is currently developing additional conversational AI mentor and companion platforms for other health indications and organizations.”
Belong.Life CTO Irad Deutsch said: “Dave has received tremendous gratitude from users and has been proven valuable by the frequent patient use and the many follow-up interactions. We are extremely satisfied with the results.”
