US Car Giant Signs Up For AI Vehicle Inspections

An AI system that scans used cars in seconds for worn tires, fluid leaks, underbody damage and other flaws, is to be used by CarMax, the biggest auto retailer in the US.

UVeye, based in Tel Aviv, uses artificial intelligence, machine-learning, sensor-fusion and high-speed-camera systems to inspect vehicles.

The company says it’s significantly more accurate than time-consuming manual inspections.

It has signed a licensing agreement with CarMax, which will use its technology to provide condition reports to dealers who buy vehicles at its online auctions. 

The company said it plans to use UVeye’s stations to check vehicle exteriors, undercarriage components, and tires, to produce online reports that include high-resolution photos.

UVeye, which was established in 2016, originally created its drive-through inspection stations for security purposes, including detecting weapons and contraband at international borders. 

CarMax, which has invested in UVeye since 2021, has already installed some of its inspection stations at several of its wholesale locations, and will continue to expand them across its entire network.
