Israeli AI Combats Gun Violence In USA

An Israeli startup is using artificial intelligence that detects weapons and gunshots to combat gun violence in the United States  

Gabriel said this week it had upgraded the software package for customers that uses existing surveillance cameras to identify early signs of a threat and sends responders live video from the scene.

The technology was originally deployed in schools and houses of worship, but has since been expanded into office buildings, data centers, and healthcare facilities. 

It provides first responders and others with real-time video and audio streaming, floor plans, and two-way communication.

“With this game changing technology, we can now take proactive steps to protect precious lives and prevent the common pitfalls of active threats such as human indecision, delayed calls to 911, and misinformation.” said Yoni Sherizen, CEO at Tel Aviv-based Gabriel. “This saves valuable time and it saves lives.” 

Gabriel is used at hundreds of vulnerable locations across the US on a subscription model.

The company was founded after the two mass shootings, four days apart in June 2016: the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Florida, in which 49 people were killed and 53 injured, and in Tel Aviv, when four people were killed and seven injured.
