Sonovia Partners With Israeli Fashion Manufacturer Delta Galil

Israeli startup Sonovia Ltd., a developer of anti-pathogen, anti-bacterial fabric and textiles, has partnered with Delta Galil Industries, the Israel-based global manufacturer and marketer of branded and private label apparel, to promote Sonovia’s sustainable fabric-finishing technology to Delta Galil’s client partners in activewear and apparel, the companies announced earlier this month.

Sonovia and its machinery manufacturing partner, Brückner Textile Machinery, will install an ultrasonic fabric-finishing applicator at Delta Galil’s innovation center in the northern Israeli city of Karmiel to pilot the application of new, eco-responsible fabric finishes offering antimicrobial protection and other long-lasting benefits to leading global brands that are Delta Galil customers, according to the agreement.

Sonovia developed a novel, ultrasound-based, antimicrobial coating applied to fabric and textiles. The technology mechanically infuses metal-oxide nanoparticles onto textiles during an ultrasonic-assisted impregnation process with the specialized chemical compound turning the textiles into highly effective blocks against bacteria and fungi, the company has said.

Based in Ramat Gan, the patented technology that Sonovia aims to commercialize was originally developed as a bacteria-fighting nanoparticle finishing technology by Israeli scientists at Bar Ilan University.

The company’s partnership with Delta Galil constitutes a significant landmark in Sonovia’s path to commercialize its technology and strengthens Delta Galil’s position as a global leader in high-performance, sustainable manufacturing innovation, Sonovia said in the announcement.

Sonovia fabrics are to be used in many applications, including textiles for hospitals, protective equipment, sports clothing, other apparel, and textiles in vehicles and public transport

During the coronavirus pandemic, the company donated its reusable antimicrobial facemasks to healthcare employees, police officers, and essential workers. The Israeli cycling team ‘Israel Start-Up Nation’ also donned the company’s SonoMask when they competed in the Tour de France.
