Israel’s Vertical Field, a developer of smart vertical farming solutions, announced that it will deploy on-site vertical farming units in a number of assisted living homes in California, according to a new agreement signed with Calson Management, a provider of senior living services and solutions.
According to the deal announced last week, Vertical Field will provide a demo unit to the Glen Cove senior living lodge in Vallejo, California, as part of a pilot, after which it will expand to seven other centers.
Founded in 2006, the Ra’anana-based Vertical Field uses advanced IoT software, embedded sensors, and in-house monitors to ensure its indoor vertical farms, which grow fresh vegetables, greens, and other plants, are nurtured in controlled conditions regardless of geography, physical location, weather, and climate conditions. The company says its soil-based vertical growing systems make the most efficient use of spaces, both indoors and outdoors, for both agricultural and smart landscaping.
The company provides vertical farming for supermarkets, restaurants and multi-site facilities in the US, Ukraine, the UAE, Israel, and Russia, among others.
“We are very excited to launch our first partnership with an assisted living center, providing senior citizens freshly harvested, high-quality produce grown right outside their residence” sais Guy Elitzur, Vertical Field’s CEO, in a statement. “This partnership supports our values of ensuring that nutritious produce reaches the homes of all people- no matter where they live. We look forward to continuing to expand to many other assisted living centers, and to making delicious and quality food accessible to senior citizens and other marginalized communities throughout the world.”
“Enhancing the health and wellbeing of our seniors is a priority at Calson Management, which is why partnering with Vertical Field to supply senior living homes with fresh, nutritious, and on-site produce was a natural decision,” said Jason Reyes, Principal, Carlson Management. “By bringing the farm all the way to our residents, seniors can see where the food grows and enjoy high-quality produce, furthering a living home’s ability to create a happy, safe, and comfortable community.”
