The co-founder of an Israeli startup that developed an instant test for eye degeneration in diabetics has been included on TIME100 AI – TIME magazine’s ranking of the 100 most influential people in artificial intelligence for 2024.
Zack Dvey-Aharon is the CEO of AEYE Health, which created an AI-based method to test for diabetic retinopathy by a family doctor, at a pharmacy or even in a patient’s own home, with immediate results.
AEYE Health’s proprietary technology analyzes an image of the eye taken with a simple store-bought camera, without having to dilate the pupil. The test is currently only available in the US, but the company believes it will soon be accessible to patients in Israel through the healthcare system.
“This year’s list offers examples of the possibilities for AI when it moves out of the lab and into the world. Innovators including Zack Dvey-Aharon at AEYE Health… are showing the real-world potential for AI to improve how we live and work,” said the magazine.
“Entrepreneurs like Dvey-Aharon demonstrate AI’s potential to improve our lives.”
The others on the list include Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
“I am extremely excited to be included in TIME’s 100 most influential in AI, alongside the field’s leading figures,” said Dvey-Aharon.
“This is a unique and historic period for AI technological advancements, and thanks to AEYE Health’s technology, the vision of many around the world will be saved.”
