Israeli public transport app Moovit, which helps travelers navigate local journeys in more than 100 countries, has launched a new platform for longer, intercity trips.
The cross-regional planning will allow users to plan journeys across regions of a country, using both public and shared transportation. The app already covers a range of methods of public transport, including buses, trains and even motorized scooters available for hire on the street.
The new platform lets travelers plan routes between locations in different regions of a country where Moovit is active, within the same time zone in locations with more than one. Users will also be able to plan journeys in different locations to the one in which they are located at the time.
“Since day one, Moovit has been committed to guiding people in getting around town effectively and conveniently using any mode of public and shared transportation,” said Moovit VP Product Ziv Kabaretti.
“We know from our global experience that making public transit journeys more convenient, frictionless and accessible increases rider satisfaction and ultimately their loyal ridership. We’re excited to offer this new feature in response to our users’ needs and increasingly dynamic travel patterns.”
Moovit is one of Israel’s most successful startups. It was launched as a free app in 2012, and after experiencing worldwide success, it was acquired by Intel for $900 million in 2020. The company says the app is active in 112 countries, serving 1.5 billion users in 3,500 cities.
The platform features include return trip reminders, personalized trip suggestions and instant travel suggestions based on previous app activity, current location, and the time of day or week.
