Israeli military technology company Elbit Systems has secured a contract worth approximately $53 million for the supply of its Crossbow Unmanned Turreted Mortar Systems.
The contract with the unnamed European client will be carried out over a six-year period. The Crossbow is set to be installed on the Pandur 6×6 APC wheeled armored vehicle produced by the Madrid-headquartered General Dynamics European Land Systems.
Unveiled last year, the Crossbow is designed to protect a mortar-operating crew. It can shoot its first round in less than 30 seconds and has a maximum firing rate of 10 rounds per minute.
The system is compatible with a range of 120mm ammunition used by NATO countries, including the Iron Sting guided mortar munition, for a range of up to 10 km.
“We are proud to receive the first order from a leading international customer for our state-of-the-art Crossbow Unmanned Turreted Mortar System,” said Yehuda (Udi) Vered, General Manager of Elbit Systems Land.
“The turreted mortar, with its precise guided round, reaffirms our commitment to developing and providing innovative and advanced land systems as solutions to the evolving needs of the modern battlefield,” he said.
Elbit last month announced the purchase of its new air defense system Red Sky by an unnamed international client in a $50 million contract.
