Israel’s state-owned defense company Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is collaborating with the Czech Ministry of Defense on the maintenance of the Czech-owned Multi Mission Radar (MMR) systems.
The Czech government purchased the MMR systems from IAI in a deal signed in December 2019 by the defense ministries of both countries.
The radar systems can identify and fire on enemy targets, as well as intercept missiles. According to IAI, the MMR is the “brain” behind most missile defense systems such as Israel’s Iron Dome, David’s Sling and the Barak.
IAI, one of Israel’s leading aerospace and defense manufacturers, will be working with Czech companies RETIA and the Czech Military Technical Institute on the upkeep of the systems.
The contract for the maintenance is for 20 years and the Czech companies will be responsible as local subcontractors.
“Israel Aerospace Industries’ MMR radar is part of all the State of Israel’s defense systems, and has proven its accuracy and precision again and again, saving many lives over the years. These systems will provide the Czech Republic with the most advanced protection for its citizens. We are proud of the important degree of cooperation achieved with local companies: the knowledge- and technology-sharing will help both our countries and provide more precise aerial surveillance,” said Eyal Shapira, IAI ELTA’s VP & GM Air Defense & Naval Systems division.
“The advanced Czech Republic radars can simultaneously identify and classify hundreds of targets, detect unmanned platforms, missile barrages, rockets, and other new threats in the arena.”
