The Weizmann Institute of Science has announced a new program that will support international collaboration between its own researchers and researchers in Canada to advance the understanding of the brain and its disorders.
The Brain Canada & Weizmann Institute of Science Team Grants program has a grant of 1.5 million Canadian dollars (approx. $1.1 million) that it can provide to scientists involved in innovative, unorthodox and exploratory research that has the potential for significant impact on our understanding of the brain and the nervous system.
The program is currently receiving applications online, and will be able to support up to three teams of researchers with grants of $500,000 to each over the course of two years.
It is a collaboration between the Weizmann Institute of Science; Brain Canada, a non-profit organization that develops and supports national brain research; and Weizmann Canada, the Canadian philanthropic arm of the Weizmann Institute of Science.
“Over the decades, our Canadian friends and colleagues have been steadfast in their support and collaboration with the Weizmann Institute of Science,” said Prof. Alon Chen, President of the Weizmann Institute.
“There is so much more to explore and reveal when it comes to brain science, and many challenges yet to be solved. We are proud to be tackling this subject by unleashing ingenuity through stronger alliances with Canadian scientific expertise with the launch of this program.”
