The United Nations’ worldwide promotion of sustainability in business has honored an executive at one of Israel’s largest food companies.
Shay Bialik, the director of Global Sustainability and Ethics at the Strauss Group, was among 12 international business leaders named as a Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Pioneer.
The 12 were singled out for their outstanding work in advancing the SDGs via the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact on human rights, environment, labor and anti-corruption.
Bialik was named as SDG Pioneer for large national and multinational companies.
“The SDG Pioneers program recognizes the dedicated professionals that drive and innovate solutions through new technologies, initiatives and business models that can enable us to reach the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030,” said Sanda Ojiambo, CEO & Executive Director of the UN Global Compact.
“We hope their work will inspire others to advance the Global Goals by implementing our Ten Principles.”
Also honored in the Middle East region was Roaa Kurdi, a biodiversity specialist at Lebanon’s Beesline company – a beauty brand that promotes bee conservation in the region.
The Global Compact, an initiative of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, encourages companies around the world to stand by the Ten Principles. More than 18,000 in over 160 countries have signed up to the project.
