Israeli businesswomen at the top of their field were among close to 100 female industry leaders from four continents attending a “Women Connect to Innovate” summit in Morocco this week.
The three-day gathering was jointly organized by the host nation’s Consensus Public Relations and Israel’s Start-Up Nation Central, a non-profit organization promoting Israeli innovation on the world stage.
Participants in the summit came from Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and the United States, as well as other countries.
The meetup was described as a summit to develop a roadmap that would advance collaboration in innovation.
Through roundtables, workshops and panels, those present discussed the challenges that they all share and explored how geography, culture and religion – while not defining them – impact on women’s financial and educational opportunities and their access to leadership roles.
Other organizations partnering in the event included Google, the Gulf-Israel Women’s Forum and Morocco’s Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.
“By bringing together prominent women in business, innovation and technology from the region, we are creating a cohort of women which will help propel our region forward,” said Start-Up Nation Central Director of Innovation Diplomacy Aviva Steinberger.
“The groundwork for new collaborations has been laid and we look forward to seeing the partnerships evolve.”
The event ended with the reveal of a piece of urban art on a wall in Marrakech that was jointly created by artists from Israel, Morocco and Senegal, followed by a gala dinner attended by local dignitaries.
