A company that develops chip-sized receivers to wirelessly charge devices has expanded its tech offering to a new, seven-inch video display for commercial use.
Wi-Charge’s chip charges the device into which it is embedded by absorbing infrared rays from a ceiling-mounted transmitter, which it converts back into electricity. The ceiling-mounted transmitter is also developed by Wi-Charge.
The over-the-air charging technology can charge devices in a 30ft-range, eliminating the inconvenience of cables and batteries. It is already being used to power smart door locks and electronic advertising displays in retail stores in the US, Canada, Brazil, and Israel.
The Wi-Spot electronic screens are placed on store shelves, pallet displays, restaurant tables, checkout queues, and refrigerator aisle doors to deliver targeted ads, promotions and interactive messages.
“As the leader in over-the-air charging, Wi-Charge continues to push the performance envelope for delivering power-over-distance to a wide range of devices,” said Ori Mor, co-founder and Chief Business Officer of Wi-Charge.
“We are very proud of the new 7 inch Wi-Spot display. Its unique capabilities are already empowering retailers, CPGs [consumer packaged goods], and other businesses to deliver impactful messages to their customers at the most important moment in their buying decision, something that was never possible due to power access limitations.”
Wi-Charge was founded in 2010, and is based in Rehovot in central Israel.
